Dear Colleagues, I am writing today to ask for your support for the International Child Neurology Association (ICNA) and its activities. As you know, the work that ICNA performs is now entirely financed from funds raised. Membership is now free and has grown considerably to over 1,500 since we implemented this policy. ICNA is committed to generously helping and supporting colleagues from the developing world in their efforts to elevate standards in the practice of child neurology and neurodisability. ICNA has ambitious plans to advance this cause through educational programs in developing countries. ...

The International Child Neurology Association extends its deepest sympathies to the friends and family of former president Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, the father of the South African Nation and an international icon, who passed away on Thursday, 5 December 2013 at the age of 95. May his soul rest in peace.

The 2nd African Epilepsy Congress (AEC) will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, on 22nd - 24th May 2014. This congress is built on the scientific foundations established through the 1st African Epilepsy Congress, held in Nairobi, June 21st - 23rd, 2012. Idiopathic focal epilepsy (IFE) with rolandic spikes is the most common childhood epilepsy, comprising a phenotypic spectrum from rolandic epilepsy (also benign epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes, BECTS) to atypical benign partial epilepsy (ABPE), Landau-Kleffner syndrome (LKS) and epileptic encephalopathy with continuous spike and waves during slow-wave sleep (CSWS) A recent study published in Nature Genetics analysed genetic material from 400 patients with IFE found heterozygous mutations in GRIN2A gene,the gene encoding the NMDA receptor NR2A subunit in 7.5 per cent of them,.
