About Topic;
Pediatric movement disorders are categorized into hypokinetic and hyperkinetic movements, including tremors, dystonia, chorea, myoclonus, and tics. While some movement disorders arise from common neurodevelopmental or degenerative causes, others stem from rare genetic, metabolic, and autoimmune conditions. The clinical spectrum is highly variable, ranging from transient and benign forms to progressive and debilitating diseases. Early recognition and accurate diagnosis are essential for timely intervention, particularly in treatable forms. Advances in neurogenetics, metabolic profiling, and neuroimaging techniques have significantly improved our understanding of pediatric movement disorders, enabling precise classification and personalized therapeutic approaches. This panel aims to provide an updated perspective on the pathophysiology, diagnostic challenges, and management strategies of pediatric movement disorders, emphasizing both common and rare etiologies.
Learning objectives:
- To understand the pathophysiology and pattern of movement disorders in children
- To understand the etiologies of movement disorders, management treatments, and recent advances in therapeutics.
