Psychomotor delay is a frequent reason for consultation in paediatric neurology. The causes can be acquired or innate and be responsible for fixed or progressive psychomotor delay. One of the primary aetiologies of psychomotor delay in our context is perinatal asphyxia with anoxo-ischemic encephalopathy. Access to genetic and molecular investigations still remains difficult in our context. Management is essentially symptomatic. Prevention is the key to treatment for preventable causes
