7 yr old with dystonia and developmental regression
There is high intensity bilaterally in the lentiform nuclei and left caudate head.  High intensity is also noticed in the substantia nigra.  The distribution of injury is in keeping with a metabolic condition.  Single voxel spectroscopy demonstrates an elevated lactate peak supporting the impression of mitochondrial disease as the underlying etiology.
