Mary Stenzel-Poore

Dr. Stenzel-Poore is Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology. She received her PhD in Immunology from OHSU in 1986. She was a postdoctoral fellow in neuroendocrinology at the Salk Institute in San Diego prior to joining the Department of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology at OHSU as an Assistant Professor in 1995. She was appointed chair of the department in 2010. Dr. Stenzel-Poore trained both in immunology and neuroscience, and has been consistently funded by NIH for her work on neuroimmunology, specifically, the role of inflammation in injury and protection of the central nervous system. Dr. Stenzel-Poore leads a team of multi-disciplinary researchers exploring novel neuroprotective strategies to prevent brain injury.

Dr. Stenzel-Poore has served on the scientific advisory board of the Oregon Translational Research and Drug Discovery Institute, and as chair of scientific review of NIH's Special Neuroscience Research Program for Under-represented Minorities, as well as numerous scientific peer-review panels. With Eric Orwoll, MD, Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Research, she has led the School of Medicine's Research Roadmap planning process.
