Thembi Katangwe
Paediatric Neurologist, PhD Candidate, Stellenbosch University
Dr. Katangwe holds an MBBS from the University of Malawi. She completed specialized training in Pediatrics and Pediatric Neurology, including a Fellowship and Certificate in Paediatrics and Child Health from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, an MMED in Paediatrics and Child Health from the University of Malawi, and an MPhil in Paediatric Neurology from Stellenbosch University.
Dr. Katangwe’s research program aims to address the unmet needs of children with cerebral palsy in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC). She successfully completed the Malawian CP Register pilot study and the Global LMIC CP Register and is currently a full-time PhD Candidate in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, where she continues to conduct research on cerebral palsy. Her studies have shed light on the epidemiology, etiology, and management of CP in resource-limited settings, with the potential to
inform policy and practice. Dr. Katangwe’s PhD aims to extend her work by developing a provincial registry in the Western Cape of South Africa.
