Jitendra Sahu
Dr. Jitendra K. Sahu is a recognized Paediatric Neurologist, Researcher, Clinician, and Teacher.
He joined as a Consultant in the Paediatric Neurology Unit, PGIMER, Chandigarh, in April 2011. He is actively involved in developing a postdoctoral (DM) programme. He was also instrumental in starting a Paediatric Epilepsy Fellowship at the Institute. He formed the South Asia West Syndrome Research Group and was involved in the development of various consensus documents. Dr. Jitendra has made an impressive contribution to the field of research in Child Neurology with nearly 155 publications.
Awards received:
Sheila Wallace Award by the International Child Neurology Association (ICNA) in 2016.
Ihsan Dogramaci Research Award Grant by the International Paediatric Association Foundation in 2016.
Bernard D’Souza Award by Child Neurology Society, the USA in 2019.
Bruce S. Schoenberg International Award in Neuroepidemiology by the American Academy of Neurology in 2023 for a highly significant research contribution to Child Neurology in a developing country.
RCPCH Visiting Fellowship Award by the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health in 2017 to visit the Great Ormond’s Street Hospital, London.
Dr. H.B. Dingley Memorial Award by the Indian Council of Medical Research in 2014 in recognition of outstanding research contribution in Paediatrics Neurology.
Epilepsy Society of Australia offered him the fellowship to visit Brisbane, Australia, in 2018.
His DM student’s thesis paper (publication 5) was selected for the International Berry Travel Award by the American Epilepsy Society 2020.
He has filed two patents on rehabilitation orthoses for cerebral palsy in liaison with CSIO (FIT HAND & Portable finger-wrist mechanism). He formed the South Asia West Syndrome Research Group, which included members from nine countries (Afghanistan,Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka), and conducted multiple studies on Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome.
He has published three critical clinical trials in IESS and is a principal investigator of an ongoing trial sponsored by the Indian Council of Medical Research to evaluate the optimum duration of hormonal therapy in infantile spasms (CTRl/2019/04/018773). His research contributions to the field of IESS are outstanding.
