Dr. Olcay Ünver completed her undergraduate studies in 2000 at Marmara University, Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul, Turkey. She pursued her residency in Pediatrics at Zeynep Kamil Women's and Children's Diseases Training and Research Hospital between 2001 and 2006, Istanbul, Turkey. She specialized in Child Neurology at Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Child Neurology Division, Istanbul, Turkey from 2008 to 2011.
Dr. Ünver became an Associate Professor within the Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2017. Since 2017, she has been actively involved in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders, particularly in SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) treatment developments. She has been a guest speaker at national and international conferences. In 2022, she published a study titled 'The outcome of two SMA cases treated with nusinersen at seven hours and at three days of life: the earliest ever,' documenting the earliest intrathecal treatment administered at seven hours post-birth.
In 2021, she published a multicenter study titled 'Acute flaccid myelitis outbreak through 2016- 2018: A multicenter experience from Turkey,' drawing attention to cases of poliomyelitis-like acute flaccid myelitis associated with enteroviruses from 2016 to 2018. She has been a guest speaker at national and international events on this subject.
In 2023, she successfully completed and obtained certification in the first European Pediatric Neurology Qualification Examination held in Prague.
