Congratulations to Dr Esra Serdaroğlu, Hacettepe University Children’s Hospital, Turkey on being elected to the Chair of the Future Leaders of ICNA Committee.

Esra Serdaroglu, MD PhD, is a pediatric neurologist in Tokat, Turkey. After graduating from Ankara Science College, Dr Serdaroğlu went on to study
medicine in Hacettepe University, the most prestigious medical faculty in Turkey. She was selected for Turkey’s first MD-PhD program and completed a thesis on Neurofibromatosis in the Department of Medical Biology. She was accepted for pediatric residency and later pediatric neurology fellowship in the same university. As the main referral center in Turkey, this clinic provides the possibility of seeing large numbers of cases with central nervous system infections, epilepsy, sleep disorders, developmental diseases and neurometabolic disorders during the training period.

She received an EPNS fellowship award and spent four months in Complex Motor Disorders Service in Evelina London Children's Hospital under the
supervision of Dr. Jean-Pierre Lin. She is interested in the semiological assessment and management of movement disorders (especially dystonia), the diagnostic decision-making process, the outcome measures and deep brain stimulation practices.

Since December 2017, she has been working as the first child neurologist in a small rural city, Tokat, for the government’s obligatory assignment. As the
only child neurologist in the area, she accepts patients from five neighbor cities in the central northern Anatolia. She has initiated a pediatric EEG
laboratory. She prepares lectures for medical faculty students and pediatric trainees for core neurological issues. She also organizes seminars for specific neurological conditions and treatment plans. She regularly attends local, national and international congresses and received prizes for best oral presentations. She used to host a radio show. Her hobbies include travelling, trying to learn horse-riding and trekking.
