The Journey of Child Neurology In Turkey

Objective: Pediatric neurology has a long and expanding journey in Turkey. However, a knowledge mapping analysis of the literature was not conducted to reveal research trends and gaps in pediatric neurologists in Turkey using bibliometric tools. In this study, we performed a bibliometric analysis of pediatric neurology publications to identify the key research areas and trends over the last 60 years. Methods: We searched the Web of Science, Pub Med and Scopus databases between 1961-2022, published and/or participated by pediatric neurologists in Turkey. Bibliometric analysis was performed manually. The included authors were obtained from the Turkish Child Neurology Association. Publications were evaluated by the number of citations, years, authors, participant partners, journals, subjects and types. Duplicate publications were excluded. Results: In total, we identified 5191 eligible publications in the field of child neurology with an increasing trend annually. The results showed that genetics and neuromuscular disease studies are among the most cited and published topics especially in last decade. The results also reveal that researchers have been more frequently included in multicenter studies in recent years, and that the United States of America (USA) is the most collaborative country. Conclusion: This bibliometric study reviewed the evolutionary trends in child neurology research and identified current research hotspots and research trends. Our bibliometric study in the field of pediatric neurology in the first study in Turkey and is one of the few studies in literature.
