Prof. Kette Valente, MD, PhD in Medicine, is a Pediatrician, Pediatric Neurologist, and Neurophysiologist dedicated to the study of epilepsy in children. Her main areas of interest are complex pediatric epilepsies and co-existing conditions (comorbidities), namely the neurodevelopmental aspects. She is a full professor of pediatric neurology at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She is the current Chair of the Pediatric Commission of the International League Against Epilepsy and Past President of the Brazilian Chapter of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE).

As a clinical researcher, my interests, career, and life have been driven by the patients I have encountered over time. In this lecture, I will discuss four patients who have significantly influenced my research:
Firstly, I will talk about a patient I studied during my Ph.D. with a neurodevelopmental disorder. After that, I will discuss my interest in comorbidities. Finally, I will talk about the patients who inspired me to combine my passions and fields of interest, leading me to my current research and work with Advocacy Groups.

• Delienate barriers and obstacles for each patient's diagnosis and possible pitfalls that may hamper the prompt recognition.
• Evaluate possibilities to mitigate the diagnostic gap in an upper-middle-income country.
• Discuss the best and possible treatments - Do and Don'ts.
• Provide personal insight about limitations and solutions for diagnosis and treatment, considering that 75% of the world does not have access to genomics and more advanced therapeutic strategies.
