Home-EEG long term monitoring versus in house long term EEG monitoring
Introduction: Pediatric Video EEG monitoring for 24 hours is a standard procedure in epilepsy clinic. The monitoring is usually preformed as an in- patient procedure, requiring hospitalization. Usually hospitalization for pediatric LTM is not mandatory and it is a burden to the child and family, especially to children with special needs. Home video EEG monitoring (ambulatory LTM) has greatly evolved in the last decades, with a portable cordless EEG machine and camera. Aim: Our goal was to check the feasibility of home LTM, especially in children with special needs. This study was supported by an MOH grant for digitalization. Methods: We performed Home LTM in ten children with a Morpheus LTM 24 channel HD recorder. We compared patient experience and quality if EEG recording and video recording to a group similar group undergoing "standard" 24 hours VEEG monitoring in the hospital. Results: Satisfaction among the 2 groups was good, but better in the Home VEEG group. However in the Home VEEG group, encountered technical difficulties were a set back and should be taken in consideration before applying the procedure.
