Neurocritical care workshop – “Need to know” for the Paediatric Neurologist

Faculty: paediatric neurologists, neuro-intensivists and emergency physicians
Aims: This interactive workshop will update the paediatric neurologist on practical and impactful approaches to time-critical neurological emergencies. Insights into interdisciplinary teamwork will be provided. Candidates will have access to evidence updates as well as best practice approaches. Practical pathways and resources available in different settings will also be provided.
The workshop is aimed at the core audience of paediatric neurologists and neurology trainees. Candidates of other specialties and streams are welcome.
Contents:
- Interactive large and small group sessions include:
- Approach to a child with suspected stroke
- Seizures and status epilepticus – how to investigate and manage, including updates on EEG monitoring and ACNS nomenclature
- when is acute weakness neuromuscular and what are crucial investigations and management considerations
- Time to definitive treatment in neuroinflammation – how to improve recognition and outcomes
- Approach to the chid with unexplained coma or decreased level of consciousness
- Neuroprognostication – how to own the grey
The learning outcomes are tailored to the paediatric neurologist, participation in the workshop will increase your knowledge and confidence in your approach for a child with an acute neurological disorder. Resources that are accessible and practical will be provided to ensure an ongoing benefit
