FLICNA — Future Leaders of the International Child Neurology Association — is the home for early-career child neurologists worldwide: a network for shared thinking, learning together, and shaping where the field goes next.

What FLICNA is
A platform built by junior child neurologists, for junior child neurologists.
Founded in November 2019, FLICNA represents the aspirations of younger colleagues within the ICNA community. Operating under the ICNA banner, the committee gives early-career child neurologists a place to network, think together, and grow into the leaders the field will rely on.
FLICNA has the autonomy to run its own elections and organise its own activities, while drawing on the support and guidance of the ICNA Board, senior ICNA members, and the Home Office for administrative and promotional needs. Members serve on a two-year term basis.
What we do
Learning that happens in the open, every month.
FLICNA's programme runs year-round and is open to participants well beyond the membership — the monthly podcast alone draws over 200 people.
FLICNA Podcasts
Monthly conversations on child neurology topics, hosted on ICNApedia and open to all. Regularly over 200 participants.
Journal Club
Structured appraisal of recent, high-impact papers — building the critical-reading habits that early-career clinicians need.
Case Discussions
Real cases discussed across borders — sharing diagnostic reasoning and management between trainees and specialists worldwide.
How it works
Autonomous, but never alone.
FLICNA runs its own affairs while staying anchored to ICNA. That balance — independence with mentorship — is what lets young colleagues lead while they learn.

What the programme does
A learning relationship, not a one-off introduction
The Connectome® project promotes the professional development of trainees and early-career researchers through mentoring by experienced ICNA members. These are the things it sets out to do.
Build a real relationship
Develop a lasting learning relationship between mentor and mentee, not a single meeting.
Support young investigators
Help early-career members reach their full potential as researchers.
Connect across career stages
Link child neurologists at different stages and move knowledge between them.
Develop practical skills
Research, presentations and lectures, publishing, networking, grant applications, fellowships, internships and interviews.
Across regions
Linking the clinic and the lab, wherever they are
The portal connects clinicians in resource-limited regions — who often have access to populations with a specific clinical phenotype — with researchers in resource-equipped regions who can bring laboratory resources to bear. Together they can work out pathogenesis or genetic cause, and move toward better therapies.
It also pairs ICNA junior neurologists who want to do research but have no local mentor with international colleagues willing to guide methodology and study design, data collection and analysis, and the structuring of research papers.

Agree and continue
Once you've reached a learning agreement, keep using the platform or arrange whatever logistics suit you both.
Matching is led by members. Mentors and mentees connect themselves using the tools provided. ICNApedia hosts the platform; the ICNA does not carry out matching. We're grateful to the senior members who already give their time — all mentoring is provided by members, to members, on a voluntary basis.
