Diffuse increased signal is seen in the white matter of both cerebral hemispheres and the overall volume of white matter appears reduced. There are also extensive cortical abnormalities in the form of polymicrogyria affecting both frontal lobes, the anterior parietal lobes and both temporal lobes. There is some membrane formation within the posterior horns of both lateral ventricles consistent with a degree of loculation post ventriculitis and overall the appearances are entirely consistent with being secondary to CMV infection.
