Dr. Mahedranath Moharir is a Staff Neurologist and Medical Director, Interim Head of the Division of Neurology, Department of Pediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, Canada. He is also the Clinical Director of the Children's Stroke Program. His research interest is in the Pediatric Strock, in particular Cerebral Sinovenous Thrombosis, Arteriopathies, Stroke Imaging and Stroke Outcomes. He is a co-investigator in the International Pediatric Stroke Study and a founding member of the International Pediatric Stroke Organisation. His academic interests beyond Pediatric Stroke research include the Inpatient Child Neurology Care delivery model. He is a founding member and investigator of the Pediatric Neurohospitalist Steering Committee. He is also an Associate Editor of the Candian Journal of Neurological Sciences.

Cerebral Sinovenous Thrombosis ( CSVT ) is a rare, yet potentially devastating disorder, associated with acute complications and long-term neurologic sequelae. Consensus-based International Pediatric CSVT treatment guidelines emphasize early clinical-radiological recognition and prompt consideration for anticoagulation therapy. However, the lack of clinical trials has precluded evidence-based patient selection, anticoagulant choice, optimal monitoring parameters and treatment duration. This presentation will attempt to address some of the commonly encountered issues that continue to pose questions and raise debates regarding bedside management of Pediatric Cerebral Sinovenous Thrombosis.

The core learning objectives of the webinar will be:

  1. To Understand the Pathophysiology of "Ischemic" brain injury in CSVT ( Venous Stroke )
  2. To recognise the clinical and radiological challenges in Pediatric CSVT diagnosis
  3. To review the current consensus-based management of Pediatric CSVT
  4. To develop a Pediatric bedside approach to Pediatric CSVT management
