Funccional testing and rehabilitation of spinal muscular atrophy patients

Spinal muscular atrophy is a serious neuromuscular disorder due to a defect in the motor for survival of motor neurons - SMN1. The treatment of these patients is with a multidisciplinary approach. Rehabilitation can be divided into rehabilitation of inpatient and rehabilitation of sitting patients. The aim is to present functional tests to monitoring drug and rehabilitation treatment in these patients. Follow-up in all these patients is with functional tests: Hammersmith functional motor scale for SMA ( HFMSE ), then Revised upper limb module for SMA (RULM) applied to patients with type 2 and type 3, as well as CHOP INTEND as an adapted SMA scale from test of infant Motor Performance for SMA type1. Method and material: functional tests performed in 7 patients with appropriate tests before receiving therapy with the drug Nusinersen and re-tested after 1 year of drug application. Meanwhile, patients have kinesiotherapy at home and in specialized departments of physical therapy and rehabilitation. Conclusion: Drug therapy and rehabilitation, namely exercise in these patients affect the functionality, strength, range of motion, endurance, as well as improving daily living and quality of life
